En son 22 Şubat 2009 Tarihinde iki takım karşılaşmış ve Kocaelispor deplasmanda oynadığı bu zorlu maçı 5-2 kazanmıştı. Aradan 16 yıl geçmesine rağmen hala o maç konuşuluyor ve tarihin tozlu sayfalarında yer alıyor. Golcü futbolcumuz Taner Gülleri, o maçta Galatasaray ağlarına 4 gol atmıştı.
